The Automata series introduces my brother who is portrayed as a robot-like form.
This is done in order to illustrate that each action he takes is controlled or “programmed” by another family member or outside influence. In a sense he is becoming increasingly dependent upon someone giving him instruction. Themes of submission are further evident by his passive pose as a model for the series. In these images my fear and concern is shown in reference to him losing his personality and my losing him as my brother. The shape of the new being that emerges in these photographs reflects issues such as war, technology, bondage, isolation and even death. All of these factors are present in my view of the person who he is becoming.
